Liam Robertson, Moorhead, is a 6 year old who developed pneumonia and enlarged lymph nodes in his neck, which required surgery. Further testing resulted in a diagnosis of Chronic Granulomatous Disease, a rare immune disorder that affects the body’s ability to fight off certain infections. Liam will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant, with his little sister Violet serving as a perfect match, which offers the possibility of curing CGD.

Angie Gamradt, West Fargo, was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, which disrupts how the brain and body communicate. For the past year and a half, she has been working tirelessly in therapy. Recently, her providers discovered that her brain has lost awareness of where her body is in space and time causing symptoms similar to those of a traumatic brain injury. Friends are hosting an online fundraiser to help the family with specialized medicine treatments essential to her care.

Marcy Skiple, Fargo, went to the ER because she didn’t feel well. During her visit, urgent CT scans of her brain detected a subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by two ruptured brain aneurysms. Marcy is in the ICU receiving around-the-clock care following multiple emergency procedures, including placement of an external ventricular drain to relieve pressure and an angiogram with 4 stent placements to stop the bleeding. An online fundraiser has been launched to support her.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
