CROWLEY, Texas — A Crowley Police Officer is in desperate need of a live kidney donor, according to officials.

Officer Kwaun Shaw was diagnosed with stage 5 renal failure earlier this year and has since been placed on dialysis.

“Being a police officer, and I’m a male, so people think that we’re not afraid. But at the end of the day, yeah, I’m scared about what could happen,” Officer Shaw said. “But I take my moments, and I ask God for a favor.”

He is on Peritoneal Dialysis and is required to do ten hours of treatment at home every night. Outside of his work, Officer Shaw is a husband and father to a young son.

“Dialysis is just not something you think about when you’re in your 30s,” said Shaw’s wife, Whitney Shaw. “I’m very thankful for dialysis because he wouldn’t still be able to be around.”

They are sharing their story in hopes that someone might be willing to donate their healthy kidney.

“For those who may not know, dialysis is incredibly taxing on the body. It requires hours of treatment multiple times a week, drains energy, and affects nearly every part of a person’s daily life. Despite all of this, Officer Shaw continues to put his life on the line for our community. He still shows up in uniform to serve the community of Crowley, and then shows up for his wife and young son at home with strength and determination,” Crowley fire officials said in a post on social media.

First responders in Crowley are calling on neighboring agencies, residents, and anyone who feels compelled to be tested as a potential kidney match to do so.

“Our community is always standing behind our police officers and firefighters, and today, we’re standing behind Officer Shaw and his family,” Crowley officials said.
