Kidney dialysis industry accused of maximizing profits over patients

The majority of patients in the US who require kidney dialysis are treated in outpatient clinics, where almost all of them are run by for-profit companies that prioritize the profits of the company over the needs of the patients. According to Tom Mueller, author of How to Kill, patients on dialysis in the United States die one to two times faster than other developed countries. “48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty is considering serious concerns about the dialysis industry that found a CBS News investigation that a third of all dialysis clinics did not meet federal performance standards this year. The company denied these allegations and said patient care and safety are their main concerns.
