In the wake of Hurricane Milton in late 2024, Davita's teammates devoted their time and support to patients in Tampa, Florida, in areas that require life support treatment to survive.
“The most important thing for us is all our patients, that's why we're here,” said Eugenia Sosa, a nurse at Davita, about volunteering at the Central Tampa Dialysis Centre on Sunday.
Care for patients comes naturally to Davita's teammates (employees), so it was not surprising that they would find them going any further to support the patients. Biomedical teammates and others worked diligently to restore electricity and water in the heart after the storm. Teammates also worked to create access to treatment for storm-dried patients, making time to provide food and drinking water to patients in need.
During extreme weather and natural disasters, Davita emergency management teams, as well as local teams in affected areas, will stimulate efforts to prioritize patient safety and access to care. Skipping dialysis treatments can be life-threatening, so it's very important that patients show up for treatment and teammates are there and ready.

Teammates look to the company's values and a community-driven culture when they work to care for the community.
Davita's teammate Lisa Franklin (RN) is a nurse who had only worked in Davita for a few months at the time of the storm and said she thinks dialysis treatment is so important to patients with end-stage kidney disease that she thinks she is very grateful.
“For me, serving patients is always an honor,” Franklin said. “To ensure that it is very important, to get the treatment it needs to be…for their happiness.”
Biomedical Operations Manager Kevin McCormick will work with the team to assess damages caused by storms and restoration center restoration, and reopen patients to provide services.
“I'm proud of the team, the roles they take on, and the length they go,” McCormick when asked how he feels about the work he's doing, “We're always safe and we're trying to invest in what we're doing. It's beautiful to take care of each other.”
