Braxton Wolfard welcomes home after long recovery from heart transplant

CHARLES, Minn. (KTTC) – Braxton Wolfard returned to his home in St. Charles on Friday after a long hospital stay. His return journey ended with a warm welcome from the community.

Mr. Wohlfeld, sophomore at St. Charles High School.He received a heart transplant on January 20th. His release on Friday was cause for celebration as he spent the next four months recovering.

“I was shocked. I just shed a lot of tears because it was so unexpected that someone like him would come along, like, and he was such a strong guy,” said Braxton's friend Claire Hulshasser. said.

Braxton returned to her hometown Friday to participate in a parade. He and his family were greeted by a large crowd of Braxton supporters wearing “#BraxStrong” shirts in St. Charles University's orange and black school colors.

Since the early days of her hospitalization, more than $86,000 has been raised for Braxton and her family.

“We could not be more grateful for the support and prayers we have received over the past four months,” said Braxton's mother, Melissa Wolfard. “It wasn't just our family and friends, it was our entire community, neighboring communities, and even people we've never met. We believe that without these prayers, Braxton would be where it is today. I truly believe that we would not have been here. God heard and answered our prayers.”

Braxton was hospitalized from January 15th to May 17th. Melissa said Braxton's favorite ICU nurse kicked him out on the day of his release.
