The parents of a 7-month-old Hong Kong baby girl who needs a life-saving heart transplant have once again appealed to the right donor as they are suffering from worsening respiratory failure.
Hong Kong Children's Hospital said Thursday that Whitney has remained at risk in the pediatric intensive care unit since her parents first publicly asked about donors last October.
She was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition that enlarges the main pumping chamber of the heart, making it difficult to send blood to the rest of the body.
Whitney has been on the waiting list for a local heart transplant for more than four months and is the first patient of similar size.
In addition to searching locally, the hospital said it had sought a proper heart for help from mainland China.
