Cocktails and CrossFit usually don't mix, but San Antonio entrepreneurs are trying to shake up the spirit scene with a new specialty liquor.
In the news release, thirsty local businessman Michelle Perkiman comes up with the idea while on his fitness journey, throwing supplemental powder into a whimsical mix of drink.
“After swapping the cocktails for cardio I missed a good drink ritual,” explains Perkiman in the release. “I threw 30 grams of protein into a cocktail shaker, and one shake, a Protini was born.
Bottled vodka in Houston is gluten and sugar free and completely plant-based. Yes, some vodka are not vegan and use a substance called isinrus from fish bladders and gelatin to clarify the liquid.
Ingredients include elders, yarrows, “superfoods harvested on nutritious Hawaiian farms,” and “miracle berries,” a plant that the release calls “a plant-based protein from South Africa.”
Usually, the nickname applies to Synsepalum dulcificum, a West African plant that sweetens sour foods. Perhaps Perkiman mentions Katemfe, another of the continent's multipurpose fruit. Taumatin, a natural sweetener derived from plants, is listed on the bottle.
The website describes the taste as “subtle, silky smooth and light floral,” with “zero burn and plant tips.” The brand is freshly squeezed pomegranate, purple cabbage, red apple juice, or orange Protinius, and we recommend using it with pompadour.
It is worth noting that the brand does not make a health claim and maintains a unique, accurate amount of protein. High-impact interval training is probably good for old-fashioned water. Still, I'm probably better overall health than the hawk.
I'm perching retailers online for $39.99, but you can find them locally in twin liquor and specs.
