Kevin is a Veteran who endured a long and heart-wrenching journey, waiting almost four years for a life-saving kidney transplant.
Throughout his journey, Kevin’s family and his Boston VA healthcare team supported him and never gave up hope.
In a small town in Michigan, Steve found out about the Donor Outreach for Veterans, or DOVE, program, a 501c3 organization that matches kidney donors with Veterans, through an internet search. After being approved for donation in Wisconsin, Steve was matched with Kevin. Steve was excited to help save Kevin’s life with a direct kidney donation.
Steve was disappointed, though, when it turned out that direct donation was not possible for them, but he signed up for DOVE’s Donor Voucher Program. This program allows donors to donate a kidney now and get a voucher for a designated recipient to use later. Steve dedicated himself to helping Kevin through this process.
Four months after Steve’s donation surgery, Kevin got his miracle. On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2025, Kevin received his long-awaited kidney transplant through the National Kidney Registry. The timing felt like receiving a tribute to his service along with the gift of life.
