Viral social media posts of low country women could lead to kidney transplants

In 2021, Hope's life led to an unexpected turnaround when his mother, Louisa Walters, had to be a kidney transplant donor.

“I evacuated from Patagonia…it looks like an eight-hour drive to the nearest hospital by low boat,” Hope Walters said.

That's when Hope Walters learned that her left kidney was not functioning properly all over the world where she was studying abroad.

Now, three years later, Hope and her team of doctors have discovered that the same kidney is struggling after months of testing and daily medication.

Walters said this would not take her from living her everyday life. In fact, she said she felt more hopeful this time.

“We were talking, we were having a conversation. We said, 'Whatever comes.' I said. ,” Louisa Walters said.

When Hope first experienced it earlier this year, her doctors encouraged her to bring it to social media.

“'Be vulnerable, become yourself.' I was scared of being vulnerable, and now I have the whole community behind me, because I have it,” Hope said. Walters said.

The Walters family hesitated, but they saw it pay off.

“It's a humble experience if she can wake up every day and get herself out there and ask for help and ask for help… she's proven that she can do this,” Louisa Walters said. .

Hope and her mother support her through this in every way, even though her friends, family and workplaces support her through her, she is not only for her but for others in a similar situation. He said he knows.
