CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Beloved Browns legend Bernie Kosar posted a video on his Facebook page Tuesday morning, 15 hours after receiving a liver transplant, saying he “was happy to be attacking the first day of the rest of my life.”
Kosar, who received the transplant Monday at University Hospitals, called it a “great gift.”
University Hospitals and LifeBanc declined to share information about the donor, citing confidentiality laws.
In summer 2024, the legendary quarterback was diagnosed with liver failure and Parkinson’s disease.
Kosar was admitted to University Hospitals earlier this month and last week underwent seven procedures to try and control internal bleeding.
The transplant on Monday was his eighth operation.
A spokesperson with University Hospitals said Kosar’s journey now focuses on recovery, with their staff offering full support behind him.
“The entire UH team has grown fond of Bernie and we are astonished by the indomitable spirit Browns fans have known and loved for decades,” the spokesperson said.
