EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A local woman was facing the possibility of needing a lung transplant until doctors at Ascension St. Vincent stepped in.

Juanita McFadden struggled with Emphysema.

She tried several different medical options, but still found herself short of breath every day, hindering all aspects of her daily life.

She was faced with needing a lung transplant, until doctors recommended a medical valve device that could help open her airway.

It’s a treatment only offered in this region at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville.

Juanita says the device has changed her life.

“I don’t hesitate about going shopping. I don’t hesitate. I have a treadmill that I use and a ski machine that I use so I try to stay active. I have a bigger apartment to take care of which is I couldn’t do it before I was struggling with that quite a bit,” Juanita says.

Juanita thanked the medical staff at Ascension for helping her get her quality of life back.
