Claxton Community Shows 9 Months Of Postnatal Support After Liver

Sylvia Green had a liver transplant earlier this month, and her family held a yard sale to help raise money to maintain her transplant.

CLAXON, Tenn. — People in the CLAXON community and surrounding area stopped at a yard sale at the CLAXON Community Center to support Sylvia Green. Sylvia had to undergo a liver transplant on March 7 due to rare liver disease, biliary tract obstruction and clogging of the duct that transports bile from the liver to the gallbladder.

Now, her family said she was doing well, “She's doing great things, she's saying mama… she even applauded for herself.” Sylvia's grandmother, Julia Green, said.

The family said the voter turnout was good despite the rain driving garden sales indoors.

“Well, we said there was rain, sparkle, and it was raining, but we're still here,” said Jeanne Smith, Sylvia's great aunt.

There were plenty of items for people to buy, including toys, books, clothes and more. The event began at 8am, but appeared as early as 6:30am.

“Even before we started at 8 o'clock, they were here so we waited to get our first grab of what they wanted,” Smith said.

Many of the people who showed up were very excited to help Sylvia and her family.

“All these proceeds we are raising here today go strictly to her.”

All the money raised through the yard sale, as well as the silent auction held late in the evening, will be directed to Sylvia's Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) Fund. The fund will help Sylvia pay future medical expenses related to her transplant.

The family said they were overwhelmed by the support the community has shown for their little girls.

“Thank you to everyone. They've done for her so far,” Green said.

If you want to help Sylvia and her family, You can do that here.
