Cleveland browns legend bernie kosar returns to hospital amid 'small

CLEVELAND — Legendary Cleveland Browns QB Bernie Kosar announced Wednesday that he has returned to University Hospitals due to his body having a “small rejection” of the liver following transplant surgery in November.

“2026, this is going to be a great year for us, but it started off a little rough for me here and my body is having a small rejection right now of the liver,” Kosar said in a video posted on his social medial platforms. “So I’m back in here getting IV’d up and trying to get my body here to accept this new liver, this new gift so I can get on to having an awesome, positive 2026.”

This marks the third time that Kosar has been admitted to UH for complications following his surgery on Nov. 17.

In the days leading up to the surgery, Kosar was, in the words of his doctor, “incredibly, incredibly sick” and dealt with “life-threatening bleeding complications” that required “five or six interventions.”

On Nov. 30, Kosar announced he had been readmitted to UH, saying in a video that he was “trying to stay positive but obviously a little bummed.” He was discharged on Dec. 2.

“Finally and thankfully, I’ve been discharged from the hospital. Feeling incredibly grateful, blessed, and ready to make today a winning day. 🙌 matter,” the 62-year-old Kosar wrote in a social media post that also included a brief video.

On Dec. 10, Kosar announced that he was back in the hospital dealing with E. coli blood poisoning and an infection. He was released from UH a week later.
