ROCHESTER — Mayo Clinic performed 2,065 solid organ transplants in 2025, the most in a single year in the health system’s history.
“This number represents new beginnings full of hope for so many,” Dr. Julie Heimbach, a transplant surgeon and director of Mayo Clinic Transplant in Rochester, said in a news release. “This incredible milestone is only made possible by the generosity of our donors and donor families, the resilience of our transplant recipients, and the unwavering dedication of our transplant care teams.”
The number includes transplants performed at Mayo Clinic’s Minnesota, Florida and Arizona campuses.
In 2024, Mayo Clinic completed 2,006 organ transplants.
Nationally, more than 109,000 patients are in need of a new heart, kidney or other organ transplant.
“Through collaboration across Mayo Clinic teams, investing in new technologies and continued research, we are working toward a future where we can expand access and help more patients receive lifesaving transplants when they need them most,” Heimbach said.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
