Scottish Pollard celebrates one year after undergoing a life-saving surgery. I am receiving a new mind. Now he wants to educate people about organ donation.
INDIANAPOLIS – Former Indiana Pacers player Scott Pollard celebrates a year after undergoing life-saving surgery.
Scott acquired the virus four years ago, which caused a genetic heart condition. After three ablations and multiple medications, Scott was on the Indiana heart transplant list. However, his wait time became more challenging due to his size.
“I'm 6'11” and 300 (lb). Scott said in a February 2024 interview with 13News.
His father, Pearl Eyesine Pollard, was 54 years old, 6 feet, 9 inches tall and weighed 380 pounds. Scott was only 16 years old when his father passed away.
On February 16, 2024, Scott was waiting for his new mind to end when he matched with the donor.
His wife, Dawn, shared social media updates on Scott's progress, from daily exercise to his fun moment of Berling, from leaving the ICU floor on February 21, 2024, five days after the surgery.
Now, Dawn and the couple's friend, Dave Sita, have created a charity called The pearl of life Educate, encourage and support those involved in the organ donation process.
“(Dawn and Dave) created the pearls of life so that they could help others sign up. There were shocking numbers everywhere in the country, and when they saw them, “Why don't you? Why don't you become a hero?” Pollard said. “No one knows when that will happen. If it happens earlier, isn't it not a hero for many people because tragedy will occur in life, accidents, things will happen?”

Pollard is a voluntary spokesman for a charity, traveling around the country to educate people about donating organs and sharing his stories.
Pearls of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22nd from 6:30 to 10:30pm at Lucas Estate West Pavilion, 11453 Ditch Road, Carmel. Cocktail/swing dance outfits are required for parties.
