According to a press release, Citizens on Dialysis has announced a new kidney disease training curriculum for local healthcare professionals.
“Community health workers are an untapped resource in the fight against kidney disease” Andrew Conkling The chairman of the board of directors for Citizens for Dialysis Patients said in a statement:[Dialysis Patient Citizens] DPC provides kidney failure training to this workforce, Kidney disease progression.”
The purpose of this program is to Health professionals educate the community Learn about managing kidney disease and help people at risk for kidney failure.
The nonprofit organization, which supports dialysis patients and their families, led a 14-person task force from the Illinois Kidney Care Alliance to develop job descriptions, specific training objectives and curriculum outlines for local health care workers.
Key partners also include the Illinois Public Health Association, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, the University of Illinois Institute on Aging and Diversity, the National Kidney Foundation, Baxter Black KARE and the HAP Foundation, according to the release.
The curriculum includes six self-paced online modules: Your Kidneys and You, Recognizing Chronic Kidney Disease, Self-Care for Kidney Health, Disparities and Kidney Disease, Diagnosis and Treatment, and Coping with Diagnosis, Trauma, and Grief.
“This training will enable individuals to better manage their health and learn about treatment options, and provide families with the knowledge they need to support their loved ones,” Conkling said.
Participants will attend a two-hour, in-person training session and must complete all six modules for a perfect score. The first training will run from July 22 to August 16. The final session will take place at the IPHA Community Health Worker Summit in Springfield, Illinois on August 21.
