Temple's expanded criteria makes more patients eligible for transplants

Temple Heart & Vascular Institute is a center of innovation for treating the full range of cardiovascular diseases.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — temple heart & Vascular Institute is a center of innovation for treating all cardiovascular diseases, from hypertension to advanced heart failure. We offer expanded heart transplant criteria to make more patients eligible for transplants and are the first in the Philadelphia area to be listed as a transplant facility.

Local Spotlight includes Dr. Eman Hamad, Director of Advanced Heart Failure Transplant Program at Temple University Hospital. She explains how Temple established expanded heart transplant criteria and what it means to be a high-risk patient. She also explains what the process is for a patient to be added to the waiting list for a donor heart, and what patients and their families should do if they are told they are not eligible for a transplant elsewhere. It will also tell you what you need to know.
