Former Stebbins player and heart transplant recipient throws ceremonial first pitch at Dragons game – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

DAYTON — A former Stebbins High School student will throw the ceremonial first pitch at this weekend's Dayton Dragons game after undergoing heart transplant surgery last year.

News Center 7 previously reported that Ebony Sherwood suffered a heart attack in March 2023 and collapsed during a track practice at Stebbins High School.

Two athletic trainers saved her life.

Ebony had numerous blood clots throughout her body and was struggling to survive. Her only chance was to receive an emergency heart transplant.

She got it last March.

Ebony threw the ceremonial first pitch before the Dragons' game against Great Lakes on Saturday to pay tribute to the heroic organ donor who gave her life and raise awareness of the need for organ donors.

She is currently taking college classes to become an athletic trainer and is involved in educating others about the importance of life-saving measures.
