We first met Anthony Harper in February of 2023. Due to heart failure, he was waiting for a new heart. In late January 2024, Harper received the phone call he had been waiting for over a year. He was to receive his new heart. It was on January 29th that he left his home in Des Moines to travel to Omaha, Nebraska, for heart transplant surgery. Anthony Harper, a heart transplant recipient, said: There were no problems. This new heart gave him a new lease on life. He can make plans for the future. “I think whatever I want to do is fine. I’m not going to go through something like this just to keep doing what I’m doing,” Harper said. Harper knows that her life will take on the lives of others that had to end. He doesn’t take that lightly. “I don’t think I can say I’m grateful. Or thank you, that’s enough. I think…or I feel sorry for the people who lost someone. I don’t think so. “I don’t know what to say, but all I can say is I won’t let it go to waste,” Harper said.

“You think about what if it doesn’t work out,” said heart transplant recipient Anthony Harper.

Nothing was a problem.

By 6 a.m. the next day, Harper’s heart was renewed.

He woke up that night, started walking the next day, and was on his way home two weeks later. he felt great.

“I’m definitely more myself than I’ve ever been,” Harper said.

This new heart gave him a new lease on life. He can make plans for the future.

“I think I can do whatever I want to do. I’m not going to go through something like this just to keep my job,” Harper said.

Harper knows that for her life to go on, someone else’s life has to end. He doesn’t take that lightly. He would welcome a meeting with the donor’s family.

“I don’t think I can say I’m grateful. Or thank you, that’s enough. I just…or I feel sorry for the people who lost someone. I don’t know what to say, “Everything I can do, I can say I’m not going to waste it,” Harper said.
