The hospital says it is working with waitlisted patients to transfer them to other centers for their transplant.
SPOKANE, Wash. — Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center announced Thursday that it has temporarily paused its heart transplant program due to vacancies within the program.
“Providence has a long history of advancing cardiac care in the Inland Northwest, and we remain committed to supporting patients and families with exceptional expertise,” said Providence chief medical officer Dr. Dan Getz. “Our priority is to provide the best possible care for our patients and our community throughout this transition.”
To comply with regulatory requirements, Providence says it is assisting patients on its heart transplant waitlists to transition smoothly to other centers for their transplant.
Providence says patients will retain their accrued time on the waitlist, ensuring no loss of progress. For those in the pre-transplant evaluation phase, Providence will continue to provide care and will work to transfer referrals for the transplant.
The hospital says its team of cardiologists will continue to deliver ongoing care to all patients on the waitlist and those who have previously received a transplant.
Providence notes that the pause will not affect its other cardiology or transplant programs.
