Dom Pecora knows football, but the former East Allegheny coach also has food tricks as a restaurateur.

After learning that one of his former players needed a kidney transplant, Pecola decides to use his cooking skills to raise money. Pecora will host a pasta dinner at the Manchester Room in Trafford on April 26th, benefiting Tyrese Sherrill-Coulverson, a 2017 East Regeny alumnus.

The event is from 5pm to 11pm. Pecola said dinner contains meatballs and multiple sauces. Tickets cost $20 at the door.

“Whatever we raise will help him, his wife and his children,” Pecola said. “But it's not just money. It's him who knows he's important and there are people who support his struggle.”

He also hoped that the event could raise awareness that kidney donors were needed.

Cheryl Cruberson, who lives in Columbus, Ohio, was studying to become a veterinarian. Pecola said the 26-year-old was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2023 and needs dialysis while awaiting the transplant.

Former offensive lineman Cheryl Coulson was the fourth-year letterman for the Wildcats. Pecola said he remembers him not only as an important contributor to football, but also as a straight student who didn't get into trouble.

“He was special to me in that respect,” Pecola said.

Sherrill-Coulverson also arrived at a special time. He joined the soccer team as a freshman as a coach in Pecola's first season.

“Our center was injured and he started,” Pecola said. “He's never come out of the lineup for the next four years.”

Pecola, who owns Dom's pizzeria in Trafford, resigned as Eastern Regeny coach after the 2023 season. He served as assistant coach for Penn Trafford's staff last fall.

a Sherrill-Coulverson's GoFundMe Campaign We raised $13,000. Pecola said she hopes dinner will be brought in a little more. The event also includes games, silent auctions, raffles and other activities.

“The food is really good,” Pecola said. “And you couldn't get a better child in the world.”
