Brian Martindale has travelled across the country to Norfolk to share his experience as a donor and raise awareness for children in need of kidney transplants.
NORFOLK, Va. — A man is on a nationwide mission to find kidney donors for children in need of transplants, and he's making a stop in Norfolk along the way.
Brian Martindale, executive director of the nonprofit organization Kidneys for Childrenvisited King's Daughters Children's Hospital (check) on Friday morning to talk about his experience as a donor.
Friday's visit to CHKD is part of Kidneys for Kids' 2024 Driving for Life trip, a 10,000-mile tour visiting 22 cities to meet with families with children in need of kidney transplants and inform residents about their search efforts.
Martindale founded the nonprofit in 2022 after becoming a living kidney donor in 2013. Since then, he has worked to increase the number of kidney donors for children in need of transplants and to support families who are still searching for a life-saving kidney donation.
Kidneys for Kids' mission is to raise awareness and educate people about the importance of kidney donation, especially for pediatric patients, and to provide resources and support to donor families and children in need of a transplant.
