Little girl receives living donor liver transplant from mother at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh celebrates its 200th living donor liver transplant.

At the end of February, 5-year-old Adrie and her family traveled from Alabama so that her mother, Haley, could donate her liver to Adrie, who was diagnosed with biliary atresia at seven weeks old.

Haley is a nurse and knew about living donor liver transplants. This eliminates the need for patients to be placed on waiting lists and gives them the opportunity to receive a transplant earlier and when they are healthier.
