MUMBAI: A plumber from Surat on Sunday donated the organs of a six-day-old baby girl who was declared brain dead at a local hospital, saving the lives of three children suffering from end-stage organ failure. One of the organs, the liver, was taken to Mumbai so a 13-month-old boy with a rare liver disease could receive a life-saving transplant.
Donated organs are usually transported by air, but the 150-gram liver was transported from Surat to Mumbai on the Tejas Rajdhani Express train. The train departed from Surat station at 5:12 a.m. and arrived at Bolibri Station at 7:40 a.m., six minutes ahead of schedule. The organs arrived safely because the Mumbai Police arranged a green corridor (a special transportation arrangement to transport the organs quickly). Nanavati Hospital Reached Juhu by 8:12am.
