ROCKVILLE, Md., March 18, 2024 (Globe Newswire) — Today, the American Kidney Foundation (AKF) begins its 5th Annual Meeting. kidney activity week™ is the nation’s only free online conference where patients, caregivers, nephrologists, researchers, and other professionals participate in a week-long series of sessions related to kidney disease. He expects more than 5,000 people to attend Kidney Activities Week in 2024. The event is part of AKF’s Kidney Month, which focuses on prioritizing kidney health and empowering people with the tools they need to fight kidney disease.
Approximately one in seven Americans lives with kidney disease, an incurable disease that imposes a significant physical, mental, and financial burden on patients and their loved ones. Nine out of ten people with early stage kidney disease don’t know they have it because symptoms don’t appear until later stages, when kidney damage is more severe. That’s why kidney disease is often referred to as a silent killer.

As part of Kidney Action Week, AKF will host a Congressional briefing on March 19, “Rare Kidney Diseases: Helping Patients Find Answers.” This online discussion will focus on the need to increase research and public awareness about rare kidney diseases, as well as the need to increase public awareness about rare kidney diseases. The importance of early diagnosis and improving access to genetic testing, counseling, and additional treatments. Speakers included Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), who along with Congressman Terry Sewell (D-Alabama); 2023 New era kidney disease prevention law at the end of the year.
