CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A local family is asking for help to save a father’s life as he waits for a living kidney donor after years of dialysis.
Terry Ross needs a kidney transplant after learning about five years ago that his kidneys weren’t working well. Since then, he has been on dialysis several days a week to filter his blood because his kidneys can’t.

“What I’m going through takes away a lot of what my life is about,” Ross said.
Ross and his kidney champion, Ashley Ross, recently shared his story on “What’s Happening in Health,” along with Darci Gibson of Off the List, an organization that helps families navigate the living kidney donation process.
“Terry is actually my stepdad. He came into my life when I was four and really has just been my dad. We really just want him to get better between me and my kids. We lost my mom to COVID-19, and he’s what we have left,” Ashley Ross said.

Gibson said Off the List supports families through the search for a donor.
“I get to walk beside people like Terry and Ashley and just help them get to that end goal of finding those donors and having a second chance at life,” Gibson said.
A simple blood test can determine whether someone is a match. Anyone who would like to learn more about becoming a living kidney donor, including information on testing, can call Jackie Haney at The Christ Hospital at 513-585-1440.
