Boardman, Ohio – The outpatient dialysis access center has reopened in a new location, allowing patients to get the help they need faster.
The Dialysis Access Center, an outpatient ambulatory surgery center that is part of The Kidney Group, opened at 8390 Todd Ave. a few weeks ago and held an open house Friday.
“At least 2,000 people in this town are undergoing dialysis,” said Dr. Hashit Pandya, one of two interventional nephrologists practicing at the center.
The other is Dr. Sherif Soliman.
Dialysis patients in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, and Ashtabula Counties in Ohio, and Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania have access to centers where blood is drawn for hemodialysis. Mr. Pandya said he would visit.
“We manage access to dialysis,” he said.
The center addresses patient access issues, including arteriovenous, AV, fistula, graft, and catheter access.
“We treat them the same day and they can go back to dialysis,” Pandya said.
Without the center, these patients would have to go to the emergency room and schedule an appointment with a surgeon, which would require hospitalization. In some cases, your dialysis treatment may be delayed.
“That’s the beauty of what we’re doing here,” said center administrator Nicole Antalosy. “We can provide same-day service and can quickly return to dialysis the same day if needed.”
The closest outpatient centers offering dialysis access treatment are located in Cranberry, Pennsylvania and the suburbs of Cleveland.
The center operated for 17 years in a separate building near Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, but had to relocate when new owners purchased the building about nine months ago. We have reopened in a new space near the hospital.
It is also a central location for patients, most of whom are elderly.
“The service this provides is to provide an easy way for dialysis patients to maintain access to dialysis, making it easier to access dialysis, and making it easier to receive dialysis,” said Kathleen Group Vice President, Kidney Group. says Dr. S. Padgit. .
Access relies on the flow of blood, Padgitt explained, and grafts and catheters tend to clot because they are foreign objects. And over time, the atrioventricular fistula tends to become obstructed and reduce blood flow.
“Then you won’t actually be able to maintain adequate dialysis,” she says.
There is a significant cost difference between visits to maintain access and treatment provided at dialysis access centers.
“It’s good for Medicare because probably 85 to 90, 95 percent of the patients we treat are on Medicare or Medicaid,” Padgitt said.
The center also saves patients time compared to visiting a hospital.
This center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare Inc. The facility is expected to provide more than 150 procedures per month.
In addition to the new center, Kidney Group operates five locations in the Mahoning and Chenango Valleys. 311 Niles-Cortland Road, Warren; 815 Southwestern Run, Officer. 2151 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA; and 101 Nesbit Road, New Castle, PA
At The Kidney Group, 10 board-certified physicians treat patients suffering from kidney disease and high blood pressure.
In addition to Pajit, Pandya, and Soliman, other physicians in the renal group are Dr. Nathaniel S. Doe, president; Dr. Anup S. Bains and Vice President Michael C. Koplucki. Dr. Andrea Shea, Secretary; Dr. Christopher A. Enoch, Treasurer; Dr. Mario Leone and Dr. Leonidas G. Vasilaros.
The Dialysis Access Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call us at 330 629 2855.
