Renown Health opens first kidney transplant facility in Northern Nevada

Residents in need of advanced kidney care or transplants will no longer have to endure long wait times or seek treatment in other states.

Renown Health made the first announcement in the region. Transplant Institute.

The institute aims to provide comprehensive care to people suffering from end-stage renal disease, including transplant evaluation, surgery, and post-operative care.

The team will be led by two renowned specialists. Dr. Ernesto Mormenti, a transplant surgeon, and Dr. Narison Atsava Sveit, a transplant nephrologist specializing in the treatment of kidney diseases.

Dr. Mormenti comes to Renown from New York City. He has 25 years of experience. Dr. Atsava-Svate previously worked in Oklahoma City and has 18 years of experience.

In Nevada, it is estimated that: 523 people are currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant..

Dr. Atsava Sveit, who relocated to Reno in September, said the program will impact patients and their families who previously had to travel to Las Vegas or Utah.

“Our team is from all over the country, we've brought in the best from New York, Yale and Oklahoma. So we're here to take on a new transplant center. We're starting a kidney program. and our mission aligns with Renown Health,” Atsava-Sveit said.

The institute has already scheduled consultations and the first surgeries are expected in the coming months.
