According to his wife, Amy, UFC alumnus Ben Ascle is currently evaluating a lung transplant after contracting severe pneumonia. Askren is currently on a ventilator as doctors continue to assess his health.

“I still pray for a miracle with his current lungs, but they are now starting the evaluation process for lung transplantation,” Amy wrote on Facebook. “For his continued healing and if transplantation is the solution, pray that he can quickly and easily enter the list.
“The transplant is such a blessing, and I am overwhelmed by the idea that he will receive such a gift. No one will take better care of that gift than Ben.”
Amy initially wanted Askren to provide the update herself. Askren has been able to open his eyes and squeeze his hands so far. The retired martial arts and amateur wrestling champion is currently on ventilators and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).
Amy thanked the family for the pouring of support they received. She urged others to accept those closest to them.
“Hold your loved one today and make sure you're prepared for this situation,” Amy wrote. “Ben is the healthiest guy I know and I wouldn't have expected this.”
Askren fought three times in the UFC, especially Jake Paul in the box. Askren won the Welterweight title with Bellator, undefeated in his first 20 professional fights, winning one championship. He is also a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion and a member of the 2008 US Olympic Team. He and Amy share three children.
