DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The family of 7-year-old Roya Snyder is holding a walk to help raise money as she recovers from a heart transplant.

Snyder, a first-grader at Lester Park Elementary School, received a heart transplant in February that saved his life.

Her recovery is progressing well, but she will require lifelong follow-up visits, medication, and possibly additional transplants.

Snyder's family has asked both the community and the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for help with future expenses.

COTA's funds will be used to pay for Loya's transplant-related expenses. COTA provides free services to families facing transplant.

To help raise funds, COTA for Roya's Hope Community Campaign will host a Family Walk benefiting COTA for Roya on Saturday, May 18th.

The walk will take place along the Lake Walk, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. near Duluth East High School.

All funds raised will be donated to COTA to pay for expenses in Loya's honor.

Her parents are hopeful that she may recover enough to take part in walks.
