A man living with stage 4 cancer refused a life-saving lung transplant after insurance doesn't cover it – US news

A man diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer was preparing to undergo a double lung transplant that could save his life when his insurance company refused to cover him.

American Deron Wells said he was medically approved for a double lung transplant and was preparing for a trip to Chicago for treatment.

ABC7 Report He was transferred from UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, California, and travelled to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, becoming part of a clinical trial.

His wife, Janet Sabarimchu, 59, explained that this was “the last option we have,” but despite having medical approval for the transplant, the insurer Signa denied him.

Deron Wells has been given medical approval for a double lung transplant, but his insurance company said no (gofundme).

“I hope Signa really understands the seriousness of the situation. We're not just numbers. We're talking about his life,” Janet said of the need for her husband to undergo this lung transplant.
