In August, Idaho News 6 reported on a bicycle accident along the Boise Greenbelt that killed an Emmett woman. But just like in life, Donna Simpson continues to make a difference.
- Emmett woman's legacy lives on through organ donation program
- Dave Simpson said his wife was able to donate her eyes and corneas
- Envision Eye Bank said two people received the gift of life thanks to Donna
(The following is a transcript of the broadcast content)
Donna Simpson was outside enjoying herself on that tragic day. I had a great time with friends while riding my bike along Boise's Greenbelt. Her husband Dave told Us in August: “We don't want Donna's life or that accident to be in vain. We want something good to come out of it.”
After contacting Boise Parks and Recreation, they sent out a crew a few days later to fix some nasty bumps in the trail, then came back and repaved the entire section. Dave Simpson then had serious discussions with the hospital's doctors about donating Donna's organs.
“We made the donation and went through the whole process, but unfortunately some of her organs were damaged and they weren't allowed and couldn't be used. So the donor was able to obtain an eye and cornea that could be donated.'' So she said that because of Donna, someone is going to be able to see, certainly they are going to see through different eyes. ”
That's where Jay Lugo of Envision Eye Bank comes in. “They will always grieve for their loved one, but they know that something good happened, that their loved one continues to live on in someone else, leaving their legacy behind. I know something good has happened.'' And my family too. ”
Envison Eye Bank wasn't sure if Dave knew the news about Donna's corneas, so I called Dave and told him to call Jay Lugo right away. When Dave found out, he was very excited but also very emotional.
“Her legacy will continue to live on, and it will live on through the transplants that took place. Her cornea was transplanted, it was transplanted in Florida, and the two of them received the gift of life, so the two received the gift of life,” Lugo said. Because different people got sight and everything.” Someone said it was. ”
Dave Simpson encourages everyone to have it on their driver's license because it helps people.
You can have it added to your driver's license at the DMV or register at Yes Idaho.
